Flowers and plants make your day beautiful.. They give a living room or hotel lobby soul, a private dinner grandeur. I’m Karin Looijesteijn and I am a master of floral art. I have worked with the best florists in the Netherlands and have been running my own Amsterdam flower studio since 2013. My style is artistic, but not too stylized. I stay close to nature, using the organic shapes of the often exotic flowers I select at the flower auction.

Inspired by the
Dutch Masters

I work with fresh flowers that are in season, and only flowers of the finest quality that have special or unique qualities. I select them myself at the flower auction, based on your wishes and in the style you have in mind. But that is only the first step.

In arranging, placing and styling, I am inspired by the Dutch Masters, the country's most talented painters from the Golden Age. They painted beautiful flower still lifes with sometimes diverse flowers that don’t normally go together. They painted flowers in all colors and types, but painted as they saw them. So sometimes with an imperfect leaf, or with a spreading stem. There is a beautiful tension in it. Just like in my works.

As a daughter of a flower bulb grower, I grew up among the bulb fields. Every summer we peeled bulbs and dug the hyacinths together with children from the neighborhood. There was music and ice-cream and I thought it was a party. Later on I started working in the family business again. Here I gained my knowledge of flowers and plants - and my love for them also grew.

My creative development took place in the following years. I studied at the flower art school. On the recommendation of a teacher, I subsequently gained practical experience with the best florists in the Netherlands and abroad - talented people from whom I learned the trade. Meanwhile I formed my own style - the style that is central to my own Amsterdam studio: "Master in Flowers".
